What is a basic sewing pattern or basic block?
Editable basic sewing patterns or basic blocks are templates, used by pattern makers, to draft more complex derivative patterns or garment designs. They adapt or manipulate the existing lines of the basic sewing pattern to suit their design brief. This can be done by increasing ease, slash and spread, dart manipulation and many other techniques. Essentially, basic sewing patterns or basic blocks are the starting point for all commercial patterns.
Browse our library of Women’s basic sewing patterns to find the right block for your next project. New to digital basic sewing patterns? Check out our FREE courses and tutorials on how to adapt and use these patterns in SVG editing suites such as Adobe Illustrator.
